Walk from the parking place to the signposts (930 m), and take the
track. Almost immediately you come to a fork. Go right. You cross the
old bridge over the Bellos
river. After the bridge the path bends left
back to the track. Soon you encounter an information panel. By the
panel, the track forks. Keep left. You pass the hermitage of San Úrbez (Ermita de San Úrbez)
and come to the next fork, where you follow the sign for "La
Ripareta" to the right (10min) (925 m).
From now on you follow the signs for "La Ripareta" and stay
on the gently ascending main track that later turns into a path. The
Bellos river runs first on your left. You walk for a while close to the
water before the path starts to ascend more. After crossing a bridge (22min)
the river flows on your right. Soon it starts to rush down in torrents
in a narrow bed. Ignore the paths with signs for "Sercue" and "Nerin"
that branch off left.
After the second bridge (28min) (1000 m) the slope becomes steeper.
The torrents form
large and deep
pools in some places. Sheer rock walls
of the canyon rise to almost 2000 meters. You walk through an old forest
with huge trees extending their branches over the path. The path takes
you to a place called Cumaz (50min) (1060 m) where the water flows close
to the path. In few minutes you pass a fountain.
The slope gets steeper but the path lined by giant trees forming a
canopy over it is shady and easy to walk. You cross a couple of bridges
before you come to the Selva
Plana, a clearing with a signpost
(1h45min) (1415 m). From here the path dips into a lookout spot (1h48min)
(1390
m) that opens up nice views to the gorge of Mallo Sase and the cliffs of Totzal de
Fueva.
The path stays for a while at the same altitud before the climb to La
Ripareta begins. La Ripareta (2h10min) (1405 m) is a rocky plain at the
waterfront encircled by high mountain
tops. The rockformations serve as
nice seats and tables.
Return the same way back to the beginning of the route (4h10min).
