| Start the walk at the Olbis fountain (Font
dels Olbis) (580 m) by continuing the narrow asphalt
road uphill. Pass the signposts on your right. Green hills dominate
the scene. The Moorish
steps are clearly visible on the northwestern slopes of the Costeras
Baixes. When the road bends sharply left, you see the Migdia
mountain range on your side and the Montgo mountain in front of you.
Soon after that, when the road bends right, you find the sign for the Pass
of Garga (Collado de Garga) on your left (15min) (680 m). Take this
path.
When the path comes to a track by a house, turn right uphill, and a
minute later, climb back on the path that forks left. At the top (25
min) (765 m) you find three signposts. The views encompass the plains
of Cocoll (Alts del Cocoll), and, behind it, the Aixorta
mountain (Serra dAixorta) in the south and southwest. The
mountains of Aitana
and Serrella are on
their western side.
The route continues to the pass of Garga, but if you want to visit
the fountain of Carrasque, go straight
on downhill. Follow carefully the white-yellow waymarks. It takes
about thirty minutes to get there. The path goes on from the fountain,
but, if you do not want to tresspass a private property, return to the
signposts. The fountain
itself is nothing special, but the path
has some charming
spots.
The path to
the pass of Garga turns right, and joins a concrete walkway by a wooden
house. Walk some twenty meters on this walkway and return on the path on
your left.
In the pass of Garga (35min) (760 m), you find the restaurant Venta
el Collao and signs for the Gorge of Inferno (Barranc del Infern) and
fountain of Mata pointing to the right. Follow these signs, and continue
on the track ignoring the path and track that fork to the left (40min).
If you want to visit the fountain of Mata, fork left to a path that
you find soon after the restaurant. You can return from the fountain to
the pass of Garga also by taking a narrow asphalt road. This circuit of
some 45 minutes offers nice views to Aitana, Serrella and the valley of
Pop.
Going forward on the track
signposted to Barranc del Infern, you see Montcabrer - the highest peak
of Mariola range - in the west. When the road curves to northeast, the
Montgo mountain and the Denia
valley come into sight. In the east, the Laguart valley spreads out
to the sea. Beneath runs the Barranco
dels Racons.
The track leads to a group of abandoned houses - the village of
Juvees del Poble de Dalt (1h30min) (500 m). Just before the ruins of a
stone house, turn right downhill on the path signposted to the Olbis
fountain. The path soon turns into steps
that curve from west to east and then to south
coming to the Barranc del Tuerto, and, soon after, to the bottom of Barranco
dels Racons (1h55min) (380 m). Turn right, walk some twenty meters
on a stony bed, and climb back on the path on your left. When you
encounter signposts (2h), continue straight ahead for Benimaurell.
At the top (2h30min) (600 m), the path curves right, and comes to a
road. On your left you soon find the Olbis fountain (2h35min). |
