Start from the Nova fountain (475 m) by walking on the Foies road all the way
back to the Cirer fountain, which you passed when you were driving to the Nova
fountain. When you reach the Cirer fountain (25min) (395 m), look for a
descending path on your right, some ten meters from the fountain.
Zigzaging downhill on the path you have a splendid view over the
fertile
Valldigna valley dominated by the monastery of the Santa María de
Valldigina,
which was built in 1298 and has been under restoration since 1991. Following the
Barranco de Abahecho, you can see a rocky hill, Puntal
de la Balsa. The path goes under a Roman aqueduct
and comes to a track (1h05min) (140 m). Close to this point you
find remains of another arcades of an aqueduct which was a large water supply
system delivering water from the Cirer fountain to the valley.
The track leads to the CV-675 (1h07min) (140 m). Turn right and walk to Simat
de Valldigna (1h25min) (50 m).
After visiting the monastery, start walking on the Carrer la Xara which goes
by the southern wall of the monastery to the orange groves. When this narrow
asphalt road comes to another road (1h28min) by the end of the monestery wall,
go right, if you want to visit the Ermita de Santa
Anna. Otherwise, follow the
route straight on. When the road forks (1h38min), go left. Follow the Cami de la
Fontarda, and, after passing a couple of houses, make a left turn (1h42min)
indicated by the white-yellow waymark. At the next junction (1h46min), turn
right. When you come to a crossroads with white-yellow waymarks to all
directions (1h50min), turn right. Walk on this gently ascending road to the end
of orange groves where the road forks (2h) (65 m).
Between the two forks, you find a path that climbs to the Castell de la Reina
Mora (2h25min) (240 m). This Moorish castle was still in use for most part of
the Middle Age. The ruins encompass parts of the entrance,
outer wall, main
tower, chapel
and service buildings.
From the hill you have a nice view over the southwestern
and northern sides of
the Valley of Valldigna.
Walk back to the crossroads (2h55min), and turn right. Ignore all side roads
until you reach an industrial area very close to Tavernes de la Valldigna. Make a
right turn indicated by a white-yellow waymark (3h20min) (15 m). At the next
T-junction (3h27min) where you find white-yellow waymarks to both directions,
turn left. Keep straight on until you see Cami de la Cadira on your right at the
crossroads (3h30min). Cami de la Cadira turns into a path by a house (3h40min)
(60 m) and curves left from Barranc de Cremades.
The path zigzags to the Costera Ampla, where the
green plains spread out in
front of you, and, Tavernes
de la Valldigna behind you. The path becomes more gentle, and widens to a track in the
Campille plain (4h40min) (335 m).
Go right at the next two junctions which you meet within three minutes. The
track surrounded by magnificent mountain views keeps ascending gently to the
pass between the Alto de la Sardina and Puntal de les Foies (5h40min) (480 m),
and goes back to the Nova fountain (5h50min).
