How to get there: Drive
from Güéjar Sierra on the GR-420 eastwards. After 2.5 km you encounter
an information panel showing the route on the left hand side of the
road. You find in this bend two more panels, one about the recreation
usage of the river and the other about restaurant Maitena. There is a
parking place on the right hand side of the road. (Roadmap)

| Take the steeply ascending path that starts by
the information panel (1025 m). It forks in a couple of minutes. Go
right. Almost immediately you come to another fork. Continue to the
left. You walk through a forest with chestnuts
and oaks, meet a canal (17min) (1150
m) and continue straight on. Higher up you see Güéjar Sierra on your right. When
the path forks, follow the signs for "Las
Fuenzuelas" and "Las Herrerias" to the right
(30min) (1235 m). The route takes you along the left slope of the Genil gorge from southwest to northeast. From the barren slope you look down in the green gorge. A white house surrounded by fruit trees appears in front of you. The path comes to a track (1h10min) (1265 m). Turn left uphill. In few minutes you reach a junction by the house (1280 m). Turn right downhill. The sandroad slopes to a narrow concrete road by the Genil river (1h36min) (1120 m). You go through three tunnels to an asphalt road (1h56min) (1070 m). Turn right, walk some 15 meters and take a path that branches off left. The path get wider following the Genil river for some ten minutes before returning to the road. Turn left and walk back to the parking place (2h07min). |
