How to get there: Drive on the N-621 to La Vega, where you turn to CA-894 signposted to Barago. After 4 km you reach Barago and turn left uphill. By the church you find a square with a fountain and place for parking. (Roadmap)

Distance: 1h43min/7.3km

From the square (640 m) you take a narrow asphalt road. At the first fork (4min) (675 m) you go right. After passing the Ermita de San Roque you come to the next fork (8min) (705 m) where you keep right again and continue along a concrete road to the third fork (12min) (755 m), where you go left. From now on, you walk along a track.

After crossing the brook of Sierra (23min) (820 m) you branch off right to a track towards the Pico de Diego following a white-yellow waymark, before you reach the building in front of you (25min) (830 m).

You cross again the brook of Sierra (40min) (950 m). On your way to the pass of Castro (Collado de Castro) you enjoy fine views to the mountains surrounding the village of Dobres and over the valley of Cereceda to the tops of Picos de Europa. In the pass of Castro, a white-yellow waymark guides you to the right to a path by the pinnacle of Peña de Castro (58min) (1095 m).

Before you start descending along the path you can continue along the track lined by the Pico de Diego to the pass of La Retuertas which opens up a view to the Peña de la Hoz.

When the wide and grassy path forks (1h16min) (920 m), keep left. The path slopes down to the familiar track (1h30min) (775 m), which you follow to the left back to the church (1h43min).
