On the same side of the road you find a parking place and an
information panel on the route "Maraña - Puerto de las Señales" Ignore
the track that starts from the panel. From the opposite side of the road
starts a muddy
(1625 m) that ascends into a pine forest. Take this track. On your left
Pico de San
Later the track starts to descend and bends right. Straight after the
curve you come upon a wooden pole with a white-yellow waymark on your
right (9min) (1635 m). Follow this pole to a path.
The waymarks lead you cross a brook to a fork (21min) (1720 m), where
you go right. Higher up, you enjoy a nice view over a narrow valley to
mountains of the Sierra de Mongallo. The path descends into a
(35min) (1750 m), where you follow the waymark to the right. A couple of
minutes later, the waymark guides you left uphill (38min) (1760 m).
From the pass of
Llastres de Monéu (44min) (1790 m) opens up a gorgeous view to the
of the Redes nature park and to the
Europa. Do not follow the waymark to the left towards the village of
Tarna, but turn right towards the hillock of Porrones de Monéu. You walk
heathery landscape without a path. If you
you look from the edge down to the valley of Tarna.
From the top of
Monéu (54min) (1835 m), you enjoy a great view to
Canto del Oso.
Continue further up towards the Pico Remelende that rises in front of
you, first through a plain with heathers, and then cross the
Mongayo to a clear
path. By a concrete pole which serves as a boundary mark (1h05min)
(1845 m) you see the rest of the path all the way to the top of Pico
From the top of
(1h15min) (1890 m) you enjoy lovely views to
Maciédomelle as well as over the
Puerto de Tarna
to the Picos
de Europa. In the south rise
Picos de Mampodre
Pico del Pinar.
You can return on the same way back to the Puerto de las Señales, but
if you want a little variety to the route, turn left by the concrete
pole which serves as a boundary mark (1h24min) (1845 m) and walk gently
downhill through the
to a gorge where you find a clear
path by a
brook (1h31min) (1815 m). First the path follows the
and ascends then to the right hand slope of the gorge. From the ridge
(1h49min) (1800 m) you descend back to the pass of Les Llastres de Monéu
(1h53min) (1790 m) and return along the familiar route back to the
Puerto de las Señales (2h30min).
