Set out by taking a
track with a white-yellow waymark that starts
from the right hand side of the road (690 m). Ignore a track branching
off left (1min) (700 m). When the track lined by oaks bends left (5min)
(740 m), you see the mountains of
Picos de Europa on your right. Later the
valley of Valdeaniezo spreads out revealing the
Luriezo and Cahecho.
Follow the waymarks by the main track without paying attention to
another track branching off left (28min) (875 m).
As the oaks give way to beech trees the view to the
Cuernón, the highest peak of the
becomes unhampered. After passing a
fountain (34min) (890 m) the track
stays a long period at the same level. When it forks (41min) (885 m) go
left to the pass you can see in front of you. From the
(42min) (885 m) you have a nice view over the
Valdelevanes. Continue along the
crest to the right, gently up, towards the waymark you can see on a tree
The track descends gently to the crossroads of the Collado Somasierra
(54min) (855 m), where you go right downhill, not through the gate.
You cross a gorge (1h12min) (700 m),
ignore a track that joins in from left (1h17min) (670 m) and reach the
east end of the Aniezo, where you meet another track (1h18min) (625 m),
and turn right.
The track leads uphill in the middle of abundant vegetation, crosses
a tiny brook (1h20min) (650 m) and forks. Follow the sign for Somaniezo
to the left. Once again you have a nice view to the
Picos of Europa.
When you reach the CA-870 (1h27min) (685 m) turn right and
return to the beginning of the route.
