| Start out by turning on the "Cami del
Bovalar" by the "Bar Kiosco en Sueño" (240 m). You
are walking towards Monte
Ponoch that dominates the landscape
of Polop. This
narrow asphalt road with white-yellow waymarks bends right (2min) and
meets a wide asphalt road (10min) (270 m). Cross it just before you
reach the roundabout and continue left on a narrow road. It bends
right and turns into a sand road (26 min) (330 m). When you reach a
small clearing with signs, turn left uphill for Cami de Guard Dar and
Cami de L'Almasere (30 min) (350 m).
The road follows the gorge
of Gulapdar. On its opposite side rises Monte
Ponoch.
On your way to Casa del Dios ignore all tracks and paths that fork
from the main road. Casa del Dios (1h10min) (645 m) is a blue building
with a name plate on it. By the house you find a number of signs
including "Monte Ponoch, 4.5 km". Turn left on this signposted
road. Looking northwest you can see Sierra
Aixorta over the terraces. In the east you enjoy views to Polop
and the sea.
The road narrows into a track that forks by a small cottage on your
left (1h18min) (695 m). Go right uphill. You walk through meadows
full of flowers. Follow the waymarks that lead you on a path. In the Pass of Llam
(Collado del Llam) (1h50min) (895 m), you find
again a sign for "Monte Ponoch, 3 km". Follow the sign left
uphill. Some 15 meters higher up, you see a cave which is a good place to take a
break.
When the path forks, keep left (1h56min) (920 m).
Puig Campana rises in
front of you. The path takes you
to a saddleback, where you find another sign for "Monte Ponoch, 1.8
km" (2h03min) (975 m). Follow the sign left
uphill. Keep an eye on
the white-yellow waymarks, and pay attention when they guide you right
uphill. If you lose the waymarks, go back until you find them again.
From the slope you have an eagle's eye view of the Collado
del Llam lined by an orange rockwall. Looking southwest you see Monte
Castellet, a semicircular wall crowned by jagged teeth.
On top of the Ponoch (2h35min) (1180 m), you find a wooden
cross. The
panorama encompasses all the great peaks of Puig
Campana, Aitana, Aixorta,
Bernia, Ifach and Helada.
Behind the town of Callosa
dÉn Sarria you can see the dark Ferrer and the reddish Montgo.
Walk back to the saddleback, and, by the sign (3h), look down to the
left where you see a white-yellow waymark on a very steep path. Take
this path, descend to 925 meters, and then keep right on the gently
descending path, close to the sheer wall on your right. Do not go down
to the sand road you can see below you.
The path comes to Pass of Pouet
(Coll del Pouet) (3h20min) (880 m),
where you find a number of signposts and roads and paths to five
different directions. Take the road for "Polop por Taberna
Margoig" to east.
The road slopes downhill to a crossroads (3h50min) (605 m). Continue
on the downhill road on your left.
When the road forks (4h10min) (475 m), go left downhill on the
"Cami del General". At the next fork (4h30min) (330 m), bend
left uphill to a wider road and turn left on this road that curves
almost immediately sharp right. This road takes you to the roundabout on
the CV-70 (4h50min) (255 m). Turn left, walk past one roundabout
(4h55min), and go to a narrow asphalt road on your right just before you
reach another roundabout (5h10min) (270 m). Turn right on this narrow
asphalt road, which takes you towards Polop
and back to the Bar Kiosco en Sueño
(5h20min). |
